Air Gives Away Free Track For That Long Trip to the Moon

A free track from French duo Air is now available on Facebook. The group scored the restored version of George Melies’ Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon), which is about (here’s a shocker) traveling to the moon.

The 1902 film, which is considered the first science fiction movie ever, was found to have a colored version that was hand-painted by Melies himself. “Parade,” one of the tracks that was worked into the movie, is now available for free download.

A short clip of the film, which is set to the track “Sonic Armada,” can be seen on the video above.

Pixies Album is Old Enough to do Yo’ Momma

Trompe Le Monde is 20 years old! If it was a person, it would be borrowing money from its parents and reassuring its girlfriend that it doesn’t have herpes.

Watch Jim Carrey’s karaoke rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep”

A fan video of actor Jim Carrey performing a karaoke version of Radiohead’s 1992 single “Creep” has become a hit online. The video, which shows Carrey making rock star moves while hitting high notes that would make Thom Yorke blush, was shot in Arlene’s Grocery in New York. As a bonus, there’s also a video of Carrey channeling Billy Corgan on Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.”

Peter Hook Responds to New Order Reunion

“Everyone knows that NEW ORDER without PETER HOOK is like QUEEN without FREDDIE MERCURY, U2 without THE EDGE, SOOTY without SWEEP!”

This was Peter Hook’s reaction to news that Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert will reform New Order for two charity shows later this year. He has a point, even though he can probably use a bit more humility. Also, nothing says rage like comparing one’s self to a puppet dog on a children’s television show.

Check out Peter Hook’s statement here.

“Lost” Video Documentary of The Smiths Unearthed

The wealth of Smiths material that is coming out of the woodwork is remarkable. This one is a “previously lost” video documentary of the Smiths commissioned in 1992. The documentary contains excerpts of promos for “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” “How Soon Is Now?” and “Panic” and makes you wonder whether Morissey can still sway his hips like a go-go dancer.

Andrew Bird covers Kermit the Frog’s “Being Green”

Andrew Bird revised the Kermit the Frog classic “Being Green” as part of an upcoming Muppets tribute record called The Green Album (Weezer’s also on the record so the album name is completely original). Bird’s poignant version captures the struggles of a young muppet with skin color issues and asks the philosophical question of why we can’t all be of a different hue.

It’s Late at Night and I’m Youtube-ing My Youth

The turn of the millennium was a simpler time. I didn’t know that I had bad taste in music and I had the misguided impression that goatees were cool. These are the songs that blasted from my discman during those years, all found through the wonders of Youtube and late night drunkeness.

DJ White Lotus posted a mash-up of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” and Kanye West’ “We Major.” The track, which also features Nas, actually improves on the original Verve hit. Seriously, it does.
